The ingredients needed to make Lasagna:

  1. Make ready 1 # ground beef
  2. Take 1 # (or sweet sausage)
  3. Make ready 1/2 C onion, minced
  4. Take 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  5. Take 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  6. Take 1 (14 oz) can tomato sauce
  7. Make ready 2 (6 oz) can tomato paste
  8. Get 1/4 C water, slightly less
  9. Prepare 2 T white sugar
  10. Prepare 1 1/2 tsp dried basil
  11. Make ready 1 tsp italian seasoning
  12. Take 1 1/2 tsp salt, divided
  13. Get 1/4 tsp black pepper
  14. Get 4 T fresh parsley, chopped (4 tsp dried)
  15. Get 12 lasagna noodles
  16. Get 16 oz ricotta cheese
  17. Prepare 1 egg
  18. Prepare 3 C mozzarella cheese, shredded
  19. Make ready 3/4 C parmesan cheese, grated
  20. Take Crushed red pepper flakes, optional

Steps to make Lasagna:

  1. In a Dutch oven, cook beef, , onion, and garlic over medium heat until browned. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce and water. Add the sugar, basil, Italian seasoning, 1 tsp salt, pepper and 2T parsley (2 tsp dried). Add the red pepper flakes if using. Simmer, covered, for 1 1/2 hours. Stir occasionally.
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the noodles for 10 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water. In a small bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, egg, 2T parsley (2 tsp dried) and 1/2 tsp salt.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°.
  4. Spray a 13x9 baking dish with cooking spray. Spread 1 1/2C of meat sauce on the bottom. Put a single layer of noodles over the meat sauce. Spread with 1/2 of the cheese mixture. Top with 1C of mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle with some of the parmesan cheese. Repeat layers 2 times and the top will be the cheeses. Cover with sprayed foil to prevent the cheese sticking to it.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake an additional 25 minutes. Cool for 15-20 minutes before cutting into your lasagna.
  6. I had an 8oz roll of mozzarella cheese on hand, so I sliced it and put it on the cheese layers.
